Our Story

A Brief History.

Once upon a time, there was a tiny little store called Fat Chix Coffee Cantina on Beechtree Street in Grand Haven, MI. What started out as a full scale coffee/espresso shop eventually turned into coffee/espresso/gifts/art/fundraisers/charity/neighborhood development/good conversation and more.

After a decade in that tiny location, owner Mary Mitchell decided she wanted to open a larger store across the street to focus on bigger items and more art that just wouldn’t fit inside the tiny coffee shop. This became Fat Chix West: The Aluminum Mule, just across the street. When Mary met a couple young entrepreneurs who specialized in awesome food, she convinced them her tiny coffee space would be a great place to open a new food shop in Grand Haven’s fast improving east end and they did just that. They opened up The Electric Cadillac (now Electric Hero) that specializes in gourmet sandwiches and soups of excellent and epic proportions. They now have multiple locations open around West Michigan.

Aluminum Mule eventually became Templeton’s Treasures that was a combination of Mary’s items and vintage/antique selections and after they decided to close that endeavor, Fat Chix is back to being in one location.

The renovated green “Lizard House” across the street is the new home of Fat Chix and its delicious coffee and wonderfully unique gifts. Everything good in life can get done with a little help from coffee and good conversation. Fat Chix still serves delicious Dozbog brewed coffee daily.
